Alice Fox has been growing a few square metres of flax (Linum usitatissimum) on her allotment in West Yorkshire since 2017, each year learning a little more about the various processes and impact of variation in growing and retting conditions. She has used the resulting fibre in her work during that time, alongside her exploration of a range of allotment-sourced plant fibres and plant-based colours. In this tour you will get to hear about the processes involved in creating this body of work taken from the growing season of 2024.

Rooted in a lifelong love for textiles and texture, her practice was shaped growing up in India in a home where textiles was not merely material, but language and legacy.

Jahnavi Inniss's practice draws on historical quilting traditions of resistance and empowerment within marginalised communities, asserting the role of quilting beyond aesthetics and functionality. Through the adaptation of this rich quilting heritage, Inniss attempts to fill in the missing gaps within our national story. Join her for a tour of her exhibition Piecing Our History to explore alternative presentations of Britain's colonial past. Challenging well-established historical narratives, and evidencing the colonial legacies that continue to shape the present-day lives and experiences of Black people in Britain and its former colonies.
